Shadow and Act has learned Warner Bros. Television Group and HBO have signed a joint first-look deal with prolific producer Stephanie Allain and her production company, Homegrown Pictures production company.

This new deal comes as Allain previously had a first-look with WBTVG since February 2020. The new pact includes a partnership with HBO.

The studio states that the deal is multiyear but the financial terms were not disclosed.

Per the terms of the agreement, Allain and her Homegrown Pictures team, which includes Director of Development Gabrielle Ebron, “will develop original scripted programming to be produced by Warner Bros. Television for HBO and HBO Max, external streaming services, cable and broadcast.”

“I’m so excited about the projects we’ve set up at WBTV over the past two years. HBO, HBO Max, and WBTV really get my vision for Homegrown Pictures, and Gabi and I are grateful for their support,” Allain said in a statement. “We look forward to producing culturally specific shows that will resonate with wide audiences.”

Allain founded Homegrown in 20033 and has produced films such as  Hustle & Flow, Something New, Peeples, Beyond the Lights, Dear White People, French Dirty, Burning Sands, Juanita and The Weekend. She produced the 2020 Oscars with Lynette Howell Taylor and became the first woman to do so. She was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special for this and overall, Homegrown Pictures projects have been nominated for more than 100 awards and have picked up numerous accolades from the Academy, Film Independent Spirit, Sundance Film Festival and NAACP Image Awards.

She founded the female-led Homegrown Pictures in 2003 and has since produced award-winning titles including Hustle & Flow, Something New, Peeples, Beyond the Lights, Dear White People, French Dirty, Burning Sands, Juanita and The Weekend. Collectively, Homegrown Pictures projects have been nominated for more than 100 awards and have picked up numerous accolades from the Academy, Film Independent Spirit, Sundance Film Festival and NAACP Image Awards.
