Blavity’s Shadow and Act has an exclusive featurette behind the scenes of the upcoming Jordan Peele-produced film, Him.

The video below features commentary from Peele, cinematographer Kira Kelly, director Justin Tipping, and cast members talking about the “beautiful and sinister” language behind the camera.

Kelly speaks about the film’s visual, genre-bending style, as well as the use of a military-grade thermal camera. Star Tyriq Withers says in the clip that she “pushes the limits of horror using the camera,” and Marlon Wayans calls the film a “beautiful, twisted artwork.”

What is the plot of ‘Him’?

Here’s the film’s official description:

HIM stars former college wide-receiver Withers as Cameron Cade, a rising-star quarterback who has devoted his life, and identity, to football. On the eve of professional football’s annual scouting Combine, Cam is attacked by an unhinged fan and suffers a potentially career-ending brain trauma.

Just when all seems lost, Cam receives a lifeline when his hero, Isaiah White (Wayans), a legendary eight-time Championship quarterback and cultural megastar, offers to train Cam at Isaiah’s isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife, Elsie White (Julia Fox). But as Cam’s training accelerates, Isaiah’s charisma begins to curdle into something darker, sending his protégé down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for.

The film also stars Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies, MMA fighter Maurice Green and hip-hop stars Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack.

When does ‘Him’ hit theaters?

Him comes to theaters on Sept. 19.
