The second season of Aziz Ansari's and Alan Yang's Master of None is now streaming on Netflix and its Thanksgiving episode is definitely one of its stars!
Written by Ansari and Lena Waithe and directed by Melina Matsoukas, Thanksgiving follows the journey of Denise (Waithe) as she explores her sexual identity and the complexities surrounding that within her family.
In this clip, a teen Denise (portrayed by Eden Duncan-Smith) comes out to her best friend, teen Dev (portrayed by Suraj Partha; adult portrayed by Ansari). From the poignant-yet-funny substitute of "Lebanese" for "lesbian" to the heavier topic of being a queer person in the black community, this scene is a deft exploration into sexual identity that is sure to foster a constructive dialogue.
