I spent hours debating if I should even write anything about what has taken place in Charlottesville, Virginia. It’s not that I don’t believe this is a newsworthy topic that should be discussed, it’s just that I’m tired of beating a dead horse—as Kendrick Lamar brilliantly put it the other day. I’m tired of telling “we’re a post-racial society” people that we have covered little ground on this path to overcoming racial injustices in the United States of America, and I believe that the events that have taken place in Charlottesville prove that.

This isn’t the first time that white nationalists/alt-right/neo-nazis/the KKK/whatever they go by today have decided to express their privilege of being able to have the freedom of speech, without having to face armed forces, against…anti-racism?

In fact, the “I’m appalled that you’re appalled” response happens more often than you think. Especially in the Carolinas, Georgia and the Virginias—go figure. Charlotte, Columbia and Atlanta come to mind when discussing some of the latest protests by white nationalists where the individuals protesting are typically offended by the removal of some racist symbol—usually a flag, name of a confederate soldier or statue of some key figure in the confederacy.

What’s the case this time? The removal of confederate monuments across the south.

Again, you have a group of people that are appalled at the fact that a number of people are appalled. This does make sense though. I mean, obviously the Rebel Alliance would love to have monuments of Darth Vader spread across the galaxy—sorry for going complete black nerd on you; by the way, this is sarcasm for those that didn’t get it.

Of course we have seen pictures of white nationalists, as I believe they are now called, protesting things like little black children working to gain access into schools, having the rights to carry their guns wherever they so please and, you know, the significance of black lives.

Speaking of black lives, it was rather interesting that an actual hate group, the white nationalists, didn’t have to worry about facing a menacing army adorned in war gear. I guess that’s just reserved for those that are offended by a murderer getting paid vacation for killing an individual that pays for that vacation.

Again, there’s no reason to waste too much time going into the double standards and privileges that work to the advantage of certain Americans of a particular shade. There’s an ample amount of evidence throughout the history of the United States of America that one should be able to find on the internet. Some have the right to voice their opinions without having to worry about being bombarded by riot gear, tanks, dogs, water hoses, clubs and negative media attention—while others aren’t afforded that same luxury.
