This election there wasn’t just an increase in the number of red states, but there was also an increase of Republican party members on HBCU campuses. Howard University’s chapter of College Republicans recently held an event to announce the relaunch of its chapter. In an event titled,  Politico,” members of the organization welcomed students to a networking opportunity and a chance to hear from guest speakers. Howard is one of three HBCUs that has a College Republicans chapter. The other two are Morehouse College and Central State University.

The National Diversity Coalition for Trump believed that Trump was the right candidate, despite his public comments.  Leah Victoria Levell was hired to serve on the Strategic Initiatives team of the Republican National Committee. Her focus was to work with HBCUs despite the fact that she is not an HBCU graduate nor enrolled at one. She commented on the relaunch of Howard’s chapter, telling HBCU Buzz: “the fact that [Howard] made this happen during an election like this one is awesome!”

Now that Trump is our President elect, it will be interesting to see what his plans are for HBCUs.
