As millennials, we are not limiting ourselves to the job market of yesteryear. Many companies have changed their application process over the years. In most cases, the on-site application process is obsolete and you’re now required to hop online to join their team. But why stop there? Millennials are all about innovation, using new technologies to make their lives easier.

Our resumés are popping, thanks to our mastery of design and the availability of online tools versus just creating a standard Word document.  Our experience is deeper thanks to remote internships and jobs that are now open to us, courtesy of the Internet. We can create entire Instagram accounts dedicated to our craft and online portfolios showing off our creativity. Many of us came of age as technology leaped forward and we love to embrace the new world. Combining hard work with creative use of what we have at our fingertips helps us stand out in the crowd.

With this heightened use of technology, brands are starting to embrace  this tendency — including McDonald’s, as seen by their modern approach to recruiting, the “Snaplication.” The brand discovered that more than half of people hired at company-owned restaurants are younger than 24, a demographic that is more than familiar with the popular social media application. When these potential employees are snapping their friends, the first-to-market hiring tool comes into play. They will potentially be served an ad, which, once they click through, will let them begin the application process through the Snapchat app.

This isn’t the first time McDonald’s has brought the tool out to the public, however. They had a successful run recruiting the same way this summer, which saw a 35 percent increase in application flow and 30 percent traffic increase to the careers page after the Snaplications campaign. With the surge in applications for the upcoming holiday, now is a great time to revive the fun, innovative way to apply.

This is an awesome way to recruit millennials and allows for us to be even more creative in how we present ourselves for a job search. So, if you’ve been thinking about applying for a part-time job while you’re going to school, in between semesters or just while you’re home for the holidays, the next place to look might just be Snapchat — who knew?!
