When he’s not busy making jokes and calling out racial insensitivity at award shows, Jamie Foxx is booking gigs. The actor recently signed on to play Little John in Lionsgate’s Robin Hood: Origins, set to release in 2017.
As the trend in Hollywood has been restoring some of our other favorite childhood stories, this Robin Hood is described as gritty and more visceral than the animated film we remember. Otto Bathurst, known for Peaky Blinders, is in the director’s chair, and cast mates confirmed so far are Kingsman lead Taron Egerton and Eve Hewson from The Knick.
Robin Hood: Origins is rumored to start filming after Egerton is finished taking care of business on Kingsman 2. The next few years in the film industry are going to be very focused on classic stories reimagined. With the cast we know about so far, it’s definitely in the running to make a dent at the box office.
