Janelle Monáe played a woman who helped create the future we live in today in Hidden Figures, but she herself has been sharing her vision of the future for years.

We see a little bit of her Cindi Mayweather strange tomorrow in the new video she and Grimes made for their 2015 song Venus Fly.

Grimes directed the video, and said she feels the trippy, science-fiction-inflected video is “my strongest work.”

She went on to say, “sometimes it feels futile to be making art in this cruel and extreme political climate, but some of the brightest moments of the last few months for me and for a lot of you, I suspect, have come from seeing Janelle Monáe’s amazing and positive vision of the future, especially when we are being introduced to so many possible dystopian futures.”
