After it was announced that rapper Travis Scott might be putting on a show for the league that continues to blackball Colin Kaepernick, Jay-Z is reportedly trying to talk the Astroworld rapper out of doing so, Variety reports.

According to two anonymous sources, Hov is trying to dissuade the young rapper from performing in the Super Bowl LIII halftime show after Cardi B reportedly turned down the offer earlier this year, refusing to support the NFL until Kaepernick is hired again.

Jay-Z turned down an opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl last year for a similar reason.

Jay’s slyness does not come as a surprise to many. The seasoned rapper has been unabashed in his support of the former 49ers player, who has not been signed by an NFL team since the controversy surrounding his choice to protest police brutality against Black people by kneeling during the national anthem took root.

During an interview with Van Jones, Hov called Kaepernick an “iconic figure,” admiring his activism and hypothetically questioning whether the former football player would rather play a game or stand in his truth among the greats.

“We confuse the idea of having a job with fulfilling your purpose,” the rapper said during the interview.

Whether Jay-Z will be able to convince Scott to pull out is yet to be known. Well, to be real, whether Scott has even been confirmed for the show is not yet known because artists are dropping out faster than news of their potential performance can spread, and the NFL has been tentative with making anything official.
