Jay Z produced a six-part documentary series on the haunting story of Kalief Browder, a teenager accused of stealing a backpack and spent three years in an adult prison without conviction. Two of Browder's three years in prison were spent in solitary confinement. Upon his release, Browder committed suicide in 2015.

Browder's story became a symbol for the abuse and negligence that runs rampant in the U.S. justice system and correctional facilities across the country.

When addressing Browder's case and solitary confinement, Jay Z said in a press conference earlier this year,  "We're society. We affect change. We can change everything. … Our voices are stronger than ever. If everyone in this room is like, 'I don't agree with this happening to a 16-year-old,' then it won't happen again. It's that simple."

"Time: The Kalief Browder Story" premieres March 1, 2017 on Spike at 10:00 pm.
