In December, it was announced that NBC was developing a pilot for a new comedy starring and created by up-and-coming comic Jerrod Carmichael, which would be based on Carmichael’s comedy and life. It wasn’t picked up by the network, but NBC is giving Carmichael another shot, with another new pilot, which the network is fast-tracking, although plot specifics are currently not public.
Clearly NBC wants to work with the young comic; as does HBO, who, earlier this year, ordered Carmichael’s first stand-up comedy special for the network, which was taped in Hollywood on May 7, and was directed by Spike Lee.
Produced for HBO by Funny Or Die, and executive produced by Anna Wenger, Betsy Koch and Jerrod Carmichael, it’s scheduled to debut later this year; no exact date has been announced yet.
Jerrod Carmichael’s credits include the feature film “Neighbors” and the TV series “Comedy Bang! Bang!,” “Lucas Bros Moving Co” and “The Goodwin Games.”
