Jimmy Butler is sporting a new emo-inspired look as his team prepares to open a new season. The Miami Heat forward showed off his straightened hair at media day on Oct. 2.

The 34-year-old athlete rocked lip and nose piercings, along with painted fingernails, the Associated Press reported.

“This is my emo state, and I like this. This is me. This is how I’m feeling as of late,” Butler told reporters at the event, per the Miami Herald. “I mean, I never know how I’m going to wake up in the morning. So this is how I feel today, and we’ll see tomorrow.”

Butler’s teammate, Bam Adebayo, took some friendly shots at the forward.

“Ain’t no way that’s him,” Adebayo said with a laugh, according to Vibe. “What is wrong with him? That’s not real. He’s just misunderstood… If this is a phase, he’s going through at 34. I guess you’ve got to let him go through his phases.”

 

Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro also joked about his teammate.

“He told me that’s his Halloween [costume] today,” Herro told reporters.

Butler also turned heads last season when he came to media day wearing locs.

While he appeared to be in a joking mood, Butler was pretty serious when it came to discussing the upcoming NBA season.

“Yeah, we straight. Like I always say, I know what I’m capable of. I know what my guys are capable of,” he said at media day. “So, we’ll continue to play basketball as a unit, as a team. Somehow, some way, end up in the Finals. This time we’ll win it. And then y’all gonna say that you got lucky, so I’m prepared for it.”
