Shannon Amos, the daughter of actor John Amos, is speaking up after her brother K.C. was arrested for allegedly sending threatening text messages to her.
Speaking to People, Shannon said her brother’s actions are affecting their father’s health.
“My family and I continue to advocate and fight for the proper care of my father,” Shannon said in a statement to the outlet. “I am pleased that Kelly is being held accountable for his actions which have put my father’s health at risk, and look forward to resolving this matter in private with the proper authorities.”
As Blavity previously reported, Shannon reported her brother to police at West Orange, New Jersey, saying he sent photos of a handgun and a rifle, as well as videos of him shooting a handgun in an open field.
“Gonna sleep much better tonight big sis,” K.C. allegedly wrote.
John, however, made allegations against Shannon in June. In a video shared by K.C. on social media, the 83-year-old actor said Shannon has been taking advantage of him.
“She would be the primary suspect — if you would,” John said. “I don’t know if that’s the right term to use or not. But she’s the one that I would attribute my elderly abuse to. It’s definitely a case of elderly abuse.”
Shannon continues to defend herself against the allegations.
“Despite false accusations and defamatory statements being made against me, I remain committed to ensuring that he receives the best medical care,” she told People. “John Amos may be known as ‘America’s Dad,’ but for me, he is my father.”
In an Instagram post in June, Shannon said her father called her and told her that he is in the ICU, dealing with “immense pain.” The 57-year-old daughter also said in another statement that John is “the victim of elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation,” and he was working with investigators to “bring the perpetrators to justice.”
Additionally, Shannon started a GoFundMe page after saying that her father’s home was robbed. After learning about his daughter’s effort, John said “no one was abusing him” and he’s not sure why she started the fundraiser.
