John Legend

It was announced in July that John Legend and his Get Lifted Film Company had signed an exclusive deal with Universal Cable Productions to develop TV series for both cable and broadcast networks.

This marked Legend's first real, concerted effort to expand his empire beyond music, calling it the “next step forward in building Get Lifted.

Skip ahead to today to news that Fox TV has bought a comedy project from Legend (currently untitled), which will center on a guy in his early 20s who becomes the guardian to his own siblings, while having to manage his fledgling career as well as a social life.

The pilot will be penned by Tommy Dewey & Greg Bratman, and is said to be loosely based on John Legend’s years growing up.

Legend, along with his partners at Get Lifted, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorious, will executive produce, with Katherine Pope and Peter Chernin.

Dewey and Bratman will co-executive produce.

No word on who Legend might be looking at to star.
