The family of 19-year-old Kenneka Jenkins is in shock after learning that the young Chicago woman was found dead in a walk-in freezer in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosemont on Sunday, Sept. 10.

According to ABC 7 Chicago News, Jenkins went to the hotel Friday night to attend a party on the ninth floor. Friends informed Jenkins' mother, Teresa Martin,  that they had the young woman's phone and that they lost track of Jenkins around 4 a.m.

Around 5 a.m., Martin went to look for her daughter at the hotel but staff told her that she needed a missing persons report to investigate surveillance footage that would determine the teen's whereabouts.

Subsequently, Jenkins' older sister, Leonore Harris, filed a report at the Rosemont Police Department and an 11-hour search was underway. After viewing surveillance footage, authorities said they saw Jenkins staggering drunk at the hotel's front desk around  3:20 a.m. that Saturday. It wasn't until 1 a.m. Sunday when police discovered Jenkins' body in the walk-in freezer.

"It's something that no one could ever imagine. It's unbelievable," Martin said.

In wake of Jenkins' death, The Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare Hotel and Conference Center released a statement:

"The Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare Hotel and Conference Center holds the safety, security, and well-being of our guests and employees as our top priority and concern. We are saddened by this news, and our thoughts are with the young woman and her family during this difficult time. The hotel staff will continue to cooperate fully with local authorities. All further questions should be directed to the Rosemont Police Department."

Family members believe that there is foul play around the teen's suspicious death.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the Cook County medical examiner's office said that it was not clear if foul play was involved in Jenkins' death after an autopsy was performed Sunday.

"The cause and manner of the teen's death remained undetermined."

Since her story has gone public, there has been a number of speculations on what really happened that night. Many are blaming her friends for leaving her alone with strangers, others are saying it was a setup for a small amount of $200. As the story continues to develop, there has been an outpour of support across Twitter and from celebrities such as Chance The Rapper and Sza.

This is truly sad. Prayers to her family during this rough time.
