Season 14 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta promises to be one of the best. Longtime friend of the show Marlo Hampton has finally been promoted to full-time and her on-again-off-again nemesis Kandi Burruss says she earned it. But what Burruss wasn’t expecting was for her and Hampton to butt heads.
The two have had drama in the past with Hampton calling Burruss as “sugar mama” who financially provides for her men. On the other hand, Burruss shot back by calling Hampton an escort who only dates men for money and the lifestyle they can provide. They’ve come a long way since those days but according to Burruss, this season tested their relationship.
She was nervous going into the new season because of the exits of Cynthia Bailey and Porsha Williams
Bailey and Williams have been on the show since Season 3 and season 5, respectively. Both opted not to return for the upcoming 14th season. Burruss says she was not convinced that show would fare well in their absence.
“It turned out way better than I thought it would,” she said in a recent interview, per The Jasmine Brand. “I’m going to keep it 100 and say that, coming into the new season, knowing that we were losing two of our peach-holders, I was a little nervous.”
She continued, adding that each cast member pulled their weight and not one person had to carry the season as has been done in the past. “I even made that known to the production company. I was like, “Yo, like, what are we doing?” But as time went on, I have to say, I got to give props to our executive producer that they brought on this year,” she said. “He was definitely on our ass as far as making sure everybody was 100 percent real about their storylines, dealing with each other and not allowing us to just tiptoe through the season.”
Her fallout with Marlo Hampton was unexpected
While everyone may have pulled their weight, Burruss says Hampton did too much. In an unexpected twist, Burruss and Hampton get into a major blowup this season. It’s unclear what triggers it.
“Marlo [Hampton]—whew, chile—she needed her peach, let’s just say that,” she said. “She was doing the most. We actually had a very, very bad moment this season where we bumped heads worse than we did back in season four or five.”
Luckily, things have been smoothed out between them. “We’re in a better place right now, but when it happened, I didn’t know if we were going to come back,” she added. “So it was a lot of great TV this season, let’s just say. I can’t wait for everybody to get a chance to see.”
