Kendrick sure knows how to make a dull weekday more eventful.

Compton's very own decided to play with the internet's emotions with a cryptic Instagram post early Thursday morning.

The all-black image featured the number four in white Roman numerals. There was also no caption included, adding even more mystery to the enigmatic message the West Coast MC was delivering. Within minutes, the image received over 300,000 likes and colorful commentary in the comment section. 

In Lamar's last interview with hip-hop legend Rick Rubin, he gave readers a very subtle hint as to the direction this next musical release will go in. "I have ideas and I have a certain approach. But, I wanna see what it manifests. I wanna put all the paint on the wall and see where that goes."

And, the countdown begins …
