Kevon Walker, a freshman student at Saint Francis University and football player, was found dead in his dorm room on Monday. Police are investigating the 18-year-old’s death, according to WJAC.
Walker was found unresponsive in his bed by his teammates. No evidence of foul play was found and his cause of death remains to be determined. Pennsylvania state police and the Cambria County coroner’s office are conducting an investigation, according to deputy coroner Joe Hribar and as reported by the news outlet. His teammates said Walker had been “feeling ill” in the days leading up to his death.
On Tuesday, Saint Francis University canceled classes so that students could attend a mass in his honor.

“The entirety of the department is heartbroken over the tragic and untimely loss of Kevon,” athletics director James Downer said, according to WGRZ. “Although his time at Saint Francis was short, he made a positive impact on the football program, was well-liked and respected among the team, and showed the promise of a very bright future with the Red Flash. Our sincere thoughts and condolences are with Kevon’s family, loved ones, teammates, and coaches during this incredibly challenging time.”
Walker’s photograph and jersey were displayed on the altar, while his teammates sported black St. Francis jerseys in his honor.
Walker graduated from Canisius High School in Buffalo, NY. The school’s principal, Tom Coppola, addressed his sudden death in a press release.
“Kevon was a larger-than-life presence in so many ways in our building,” Coppola said. “His graduation from Canisius High School was such a great day for he and his family, it was awesome on that day to see him so proud. Our deepest condolences go out to his family.”
