According to the Daily Mail, Mr. Noem complimented the women’s exaggerated physical features and sent them a total of at least $25,000 in various transactions through money transfer sites. Mr. Noem also discussed his relationship with the former secretary, to whom he has been married for 34 years, and with whom he shares three adult children. The Mail also published pictures of Mr. Noem wearing women’s clothing, such as form-fitting leggings and a tight top stuffed with balloons to mimic very large breasts. The story points out that Mr. Noem’s secret life could have left him and the former secretary vulnerable to blackmail, with former CIA officer Marc Polymeropoulos explaining to the outlet, “If a media organization can find this out, you can assume with a high degree of confidence that a hostile intelligence service knows this as well.”

When reached by phone by the Daily Mail, Mr. Noem denied making comments about his marriage to the women in the story but did not dispute other details of the report before hanging up. A spokesperson for the former secretary, meanwhile, told media outlets, including the New York Post, “Ms. Noem is devastated. The family was blindsided by this, and they ask for privacy and prayers at the time.” President Trump also reacted to the story on Tuesday. “They confirmed it? Wow, well, I feel badly for the family if that’s the case, that’s too bad,” the president said. “I haven’t seen anything. I don’t know anything about it. That’s too bad, but I just know nothing about it,” Trump continued.
