Funnyman Larry Wilmore (known most as The Daily Show's "Senior Black Correspondent") is taking the success he found at Showtime with his hour-long Race, Religion & Sex series last fall, during election season, to NBC.
Wilmore has joined the cast of a the network's new comedy series from New Girl producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, titled Joe, Joe and Jane.
Wilmore's will be a regular series role.
THR calls it a semi-autobiographical comedy that centers on…
… Joe Waxman, a conflict-avoidant children's book author caught in an ongoing tug of war between two needy, flawed people: his wife Jane (Army Wives' Sally Pressman) and his co-author/best friend Joe Dougan.
Wilmore will play a character named Walter, Jane's overly nurturing, recently-divorced therapist, step-father. They're described as having an over-share-type relationship. Walter also often serves as Joe Dougan's wingman.
Sounds… complicated.
No word on whether Wilmore will be back to Showtime for more Race, Religion & Sex. There was the possibility that it would eventually become a regular series for the network.
