Despite all the public criticism of the freshman series, it looks like it found a large enough audience – enough for the network to order seconds.

Lifetime has renewed for a second season its hit drama Devious Maids, starring Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramírez, Roselyn Sánchez, Edy Ganem and Judy Reyes, with a 13 episode order.

Lifetime says it’s the network’s “fastest-growing drama ever,” and helped catapult Lifetime to cable’s number one network in the Sunday nights at 10pm ET/PT time slot among Women.

It also brought Latino audiences to the network, which says it nearly double its primetime average.

After a lackluster series launch on June 23, drawing 1.9 million viewers, Devious Maids continued to improve throughout July – not just in total viewers but across the network’s targeted demographics – going on to average over 2.4 million viewers.

One of the most daring series on television, Devious Maids has quickly become a hit. We are very proud of the show and are delighted to continue our partnership with Marc Cherry, Eva Longoria, Sabrina Wind, ABC Studios and Televisa USA. I am thrilled we are bringing Devious Maids back for a second season to lead our scripted slate in 2014,” said Rob Sharenow.

ABC Studios has had a great partnership with Lifetime and Televisa and we’re looking forward to another terrific season with Marc Cherry and his talented cast and crew,” said Stephanie Leifer, Senior Vice President, Current Programming, ABC Studios.

Devious Maids centers on a close-knit group of maids (Ortiz, Ramírez, Sánchez, Ganem and Reyes), bonded together by their jobs, life struggles and boss’ melodramatic “upstairs-downstairs” universe, that turns to one another for support after a fellow maid Flora (Paula Garcés) is brutally murdered at the home of her employers.

Inspired by the hit telenovela, Ellas son la Alegría del HogarDevious Maids also stars Susan Lucci, Rebecca Wisocky, Tom Irwin, Mariana Klaveno, Grant Show, Matt Cedeño, Melinda Page Hamilton, Drew Van Acker, Brianna Brown and Brett Cullen.
