Tesla, the multi-million dollar automaker, announced in a press release this week that Linda Johnson Rice will be joining the team as a member of the board of directors.

Rice will be the first black person and the second woman on Tesla's board!

Rice is the CEO and chairperson of Johnson Publishing Company.

She is also a corporate board veteran, having served on nearly 10 boards, including those of Quaker Oats and GrubHub.

On the civic side, Rice has served as a trustee of the Art Institute of Chicago, president of the Chicago Public Library Board of Directors and a council member of the National Museum of African-American History.

Until this recent announcement, Tesla's board had been somewhat insular, full of people with long histories of personal connects to Tesla CEO Elon Musk. As was noted by Forbes, Musk has been criticized by his investors for this in the past; this move may help placate his critics.

Regardless of Musk's motivations behind the move, we have to say, this what we call black girl magic!
