News broke Tuesday afternoon that Magic Johnson will accept a position as the new President of Basketball Operations for the Los Angeles Lakers. Johnson called it "a dream come true to return to the Lakers."

The Hall of Famer and entrepreneur has been a name synonymous with the organization since the 1979 draft. While this position isn't his first with the Lakers, the new position of power could be quite influential.

The move didn't come without a bit of controversy: longtime general manager Mitch Kupchak and executive vice president of basketball operations Jim Buss both were fired after the announcement dropped.

Jeanie Buss, co-owner and president of the team, released a very detailed statement about the organization's decision to clean house. "Today I took a series of actions I believe will return the Lakers to the heights Dr. Jerry Buss demanded and our fans rightly expect." Buss stood firm behind her decision, hoping to "establish the foundation for the next generation of Los Angeles Lakers greatness."

As of right now, the Lakers are dealing with a staggering 19-39 record. Fingers crossed that Magic has just what they need to turn things around.
