A month ago, Applebee's came under fire after three of its employees were accused of racially profiling two black women in relation to a restaurant bill. Now, the spotlight is on an IHOP restaurant after a server was accused of asking a group of black teens to pay for their $100 food bill before being served.

A witness and IHOP patron, Avery Gagne posted his account of the incident on Facebook Sunday.

According to Sun Journal, the Auburn, Maine, IHOP location's manager Melvin Escobar confirmed he spoke with the server and that the incident wouldn't happen again.

“This is the first time it happened, and that will be the last time,” he said. Escobar noted that he didn't believe the server's actions were racially motivated but arose due to the recent occurrences of teenagers walking out on the bill.

Escobar noted, however, that the famed pancake restaurant does not discriminate based on age.

“I’m personally, for me, kind of offended because I’m a Spanish person,” said Escobar. “I’m the type of person to say: ‘Here we help different kinds. Everybody I believe is American. Everybody is the same.’ We’re not racist.”

He added, “The policy is: You come in, enjoy and we charge you at the end, like a normal restaurant. … She took her own action."

The restaurant's management also posted an official statement on the IHOP Auburn Facebook page:

"We apologize sincerely on behalf of our waitstaffs [sic] actions," the statement read. "A meeting has taken place with all of our staff members. Everyone has been made aware of these inexcusable actions and reminded how we handle matters correctly in the future. We have rectified the situation and can guarantee this is not what we condone to go on within our restaurant."

Following this statement, IHOP announced that the Auburn location will temporarily close so that employees can be retrained, PEOPLE reports.
