Now, we know Halle Berry has played some roles y'all didn’t want her in, and some are still hurt about what they think to be a lackluster portrayal of Catwoman on Berry’s part. But there is no reason for us to be shooting people over possible movie castings, folks.
In January, Jennifer Hudson was tapped to play Aretha Franklin in the upcoming biopic Aretha: From These Roots.
WTKR reports that in Suffolk, Virginia, on Thursday, August 16, a man was shot in a barbershop while arguing with another about whether Halle Berry was cast, or should be cast, as the recently deceased Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.
Witnesses say they heard the argument, which turned into a physical fight, as well as someone calling out, “No, no, no!” before four or five gunshots.
According to police, 44-year-old Michael Jermell Hatton pulled out his firearm and shot 47-year-old Tony Jonathan Lundy, who is currently in critical condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Meanwhile, Hatton received treatment for his injuries and has been moved to Western Tidewater Regional Jail where is he being held without bond.
Though the loss of Franklin lays heavy on the hearts of many, it is worth noting that she wished for Halle Berry to play her if a movie were produced about her life. Halle Berry rejected the biopic role that came knocking because she felt a person who could sing and do Franklin’s musical career justice should take on the role, Entertainment Weekly
reports. Hudson was ultimately tapped for the role.
