What began as a good Samaritan act cost a young black woman her life this past Sunday. According to the Sun Sentinel, 25-year-old twins Marcasia and Markwonda Crenshaw pulled over to help a distressed motorist and just minutes later, Marcasia was struck by a pickup truck. The truck tried to stop and Marcasia attempted to run out of its path, but it was too late and she tragically died. Marcasia’s 5-year-old son and Markwonda’s 2-year-old daughter were in the sisters' car at the time of the accident.

“I got out of the way quickly,” said Markwonda. “She ran left, I ran the other way."

"When I turned around, she was in the grass. I was touching her, trying to wake her up. But she wouldn’t move,” she added.

The twin sisters had apparently decided to pay it forward by extending a good deed to the stranded driver after an off-duty police officer helped them in a similar way when they had a flat tire months ago, per WPTV

The two spotted a vehicle “stopped in the inside lane, airbags out, emergency lights on, and smoking,” said Markwonda. “We pulled over to make sure everyone was OK. Who wouldn’t?” The vehicle belonged to 23-year-old Yuri Kosolapenko.

According to the crash report, the Chevrolet pickup truck “attempted to aggressively brake and swerve left to avoid” Kosolapenko's car. “This was a selfless act,” said Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes. “They chose to stop to help somebody. They probably didn’t realize how much they put their lives at risk."

“I can’t eat, can’t sleep, crying, I’m just in disbelief,” said Markwonda, who noted that she and her sister were rarely apart. “Honestly, I am trying to be strong, because I have the kids.”

The crash is currently under investigation.
