Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon‘s oldest daughter, Monroe, clarified that she has only one sibling: her twin brother Moroccan.

Carey and Cannon tied the knot in 2008 in a private ceremony in the Bahamas, according to Brides. Three years later, they welcomed twins, Monroe and Moroccan. They separated in 2014, and their divorce was finalized in late 2016. Several years later, Cannon has welcomed 10 other children with five different women.

Monroe, who’s now 14, recently shared how she views her relationship with her half-siblings.

Monroe Cannon draws her own family lines, saying she only has one sibling

On Thursday, Monroe issued a statement on her Instagram Stories: “Clearing something up guys!” her message began. “I only have ONE brother who is @moroccan.cannon. I do have other half siblings from my dad but they are all many many years younger than me!”

Monroe’s statement received mixed reactions. Some people felt like her use of the term “half sibling” was wrong because they are related regardless of the fact that she and Cannon’s other children share different mothers.

“My siblings and I would NEVERRRRR…. We not half NOTHING!!!” someone commented under The Shade Room‘s Instagram post.

“People really be saying ‘half brother’ ‘half sibling,'” another person chimed in. “That was never a thing for us culturally.”

“I get it, I am an only child with a half sibling. I didn’t grow up with her and I barely know her therefore she is my half sister 🤷🏽‍♀️,” a third person added,

Others joked that Monroe is a mini version of her mother, referencing Carey’s famous “I don’t know her” comment from a 2003 interview when she was asked about her thoughts on Jennifer Lopez.

“Lol definitely Mariah’s daughter because she don’t know them…,” an Instagram user commented.

“She’s so Mariah Carey! It screamed, ‘don’t attach them kids to me’ they’re peasants’ 🤣” one woman joked.

“She her mama child 😂,” another person said.

Some people noted that Cannon’s irresponsible behavior is to blame for Monroe’s feelings.

“She not wrong she don’t really know those kids. She hasn’t built a bond with them. Nick just out here doing s**t,” another person said.
