If there’s one thing I can count on, its VH1 developing programs that will make me ask “How Sway, How?” The network that’s made reality tv its number one form of programming has done it yet again. This time they pair an unlikely duo to host a dinner party. Let’s remember that this is the same network that brought you Sorority Sisters and Flavor of Love — need I say more? The networks newest venture is a weekly dinner party hosted by no other than Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg.
The duo recently appeared together on ABC’s The $100,000 Pyramid and will continue to entertain together on their show, which will feature some of our favorite celebrities. VH1 says that Martha and Snoop’s Dinner Party will present a “half-baked evening of cocktails, cooking, conversation and fun where nothing is off limits.”
And this is where my apprehension comes in. We are talking about Snoop Dogg and the woman who uses terms such as “African-American rich”. VH1 and Logo President Chris McCarthy seems to be excited about the show, stating, “We’re thrilled to partner with Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg, two of pop culture’s biggest icons. Good parties are filled with fun, food and unexpected guests. Wait till you see what happens… it will be unforgettable.”
I have a feeling that it is going to be unforgettable. I really want uncle Snoop to win. I just don’t want this to turn into a minstrel show. Hopefully it won’t, and I’ll hope for good content from a network that has used us as props and reinvigorated stereotypes of black people time and time again. It’s cool though, I’ll let ya’ll live, VH1, but keep it cute. Black Twitter plays no games.
The show is slated to premiere this fall.
