Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger are finally coming out of the shadows. Deadline reports that five years after the show was first put into the development, a cast and network has been announced for everyone’s favorite superpowered teenage lovebirds.

The show will premiere on the new version of ABC Family, Freeform. Olivia Holt, known for her roles on the Disney shows I Didn’t Do It and Kickin’ It, will star as Dagger, who is able to control light. The Night Of’s Aubrey Joseph will play Cloak, who has the power to manipulate darkness.

Cloak and Dagger meet after running away from home, and gain their powers from an experimental form of heroin. Cloak finds that he needs Dagger to survive — without feeding on her light, he’ll die. The two team up and fall in love, fighting a literal war on drugs and serving as protectors of New York’s homeless population.

Cloak and Dagger were created in 1982 in response to the time’s political disillusionment, the escalating war on drugs and American urban decay. The original comic series was lauded for its nuanced take on police brutality, homelessness, addiction, race, privilege and living with disability.

Underground’s Joe Pokaski will serve as Cloak and Dagger’s showrunner, and Love and Basketball director Gina Prince-Bythewood will direct the first episode (and I think we all hope more.)
