Jason & Richard Gray, brothers from the Southside of Chicago, have created an all-inclusive card game based on all of our favorite 90’s sitcom, Martin.

I went to a game night back in 2016 and saw that everyone was doing their own thing. A few people playing spades; a few people just looking at their phones. Basic human interaction is going away because of so much technology. I wanted to create something that we could all interact over a common interest” Jason says.

From there, Cards for the Culture (housed under their main entity, Republic & Company) was birthed. Jason had quit his job back in October of 2015 to focus solely on Republic & Company where they were only selling t-shirts with infamous quotes from the Martin show but business wasn’t doing too good. After attending the game night, Jason had $150 to his name and spent $40 on the card game prototype.

After posting a picture of the prototype, the response was enough to validate interest. A month later, we did a pre-sale and the rest is history.

With Jason as the creative and Richard as the processor behind the brand, they’ve garnered more interest than they could have ever anticipated.

I feel like we can do whatever we put our minds too. We go back and forth with ideas, get excited about it and go for it.” – Richard

The brothers hope to have Cards for the Culture become a household name. They’ve expanded beyond the Martin Trivia game and have included a 90’s R&B trivia game, Romantic Comedy, A Different World, Coming to America, and so much more.
