Meghan Markle is bidding a good day to one royal tradition for the birth of her first child.
The Duchess of Sussex decided to use a customized team of female doctors for the birth instead of Queen Elizabeth’s doctors, reports The Daily Mail.
“Meghan said she doesn’t want the men in suits,” one source told the publication. “She was adamant that she wanted her own people. It did leave a few of us a little baffled.”
Although royal gynecologists Alan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston won’t lead the team, they will be present because the Queen’s doctors aren’t allowed to be completely excluded.
“It is slightly surprising,” another source said. “These people [the Queen’s doctors] are the best of the best and when it comes down to it, their role would actually be very limited in the birth itself, assuming all goes to plan.”
The royal doctors don’t charge a fee, and since Markle is using her team, the new baby may come with a new bill.
“Working for the Royal Household is seen as an honor and attracts other high-profile fee-paying patients,” an insider explained.
Despite the inconvenience, the anonymous informers insisted the rest of the royal family doesn’t hold it against the Duchess.

“Above all, this is her birth, her baby, and she must do whatever feels right for her. How could anyone judge her for that?” said one.
“No one has thought anything of it because it really is ever so personal,” said another.
Her doctors aren’t the only alteration being made concerning royal tradition. Markle is reportedly against the custom of dressing up to show off the newborn just hours after giving birth. Since her baby will not be a direct heir to the throne, she doesn’t believe she should have to do the photo-op “just because people think she should.”
“It is impossible to compare to the Duchess of Cambridge because she is married to the future King,” said one of the sources.
“While the focus is very much on Harry and Meghan at the moment, this is not going to last – particularly as the Cambridge children grow up and become the core Royal family.”
These anonymous sources aren’t the only ones spilling the beans about Markle’s baby. Her friend Serena Williams may have accidentally shared the little one’s gender, according to People.
The tennis champ was discussing advice she would give to a new mom and shared an anecdote about her friend who is expecting.
“Accept mistakes and don’t expect to be perfect. We put so much pressure on ourselves,” she said.
“My friend is pregnant, and she was like, ‘My kid’s gonna do this,’ [and] I just looked at her like, ‘No, she’s not. No, you’re not. She was like, ‘I need to talk to you about tips,’ because, yes, I had all of those high expectations.”
She didn’t mention Markle by name, but since they’re close, it isn’t that big of a stretch. Williams already expressed confidence in Markle’s parenting. She told E! News Markle will be “the best mom.”
The former Suits star is due to give birth this month.
