Basketball legend Michael Jordan returned to his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina, on Tuesday to serve families affected by Hurricane Florence.

Per WECT News, the six-time NBA champion was posted at the Lowe's Home Improvement store on College Road, distributing meals to hundreds of families.

"Anything I can do to help my fellow Wilmingtonians, I'm willing to do," Jordan said to WECT. "Once this storm goes away, it’s not going to just end. It’s going to take a while before we get back on our feet."

Wearing North Carolina Tar Heels blue, Jordan met with hurricane victims, many of whom have been direct recipients of his September contributions. Following the natural disaster, Jordan donated $1 million each to the Red Cross and the Foundation for the Carolinas Hurricane Florence Response Fund, according to ESPN.

Monetary donations are great, but the Charlotte Hornets owner is happy to have been physically present to meet with families.

"I can give money all day long, but at some point, you want them to understand you're human," Jordan said.

Once all of the meals were distributed at Lowe's, Jordan migrated to the Community Boys and Girls Club for another surprise visit.

As a child, the former Chicago Bulls shooting guard spent many hours at the Boys and Girls Club and over the years has contributed to helping the center stay open and cater to more children. Jordan gave 200 pairs of Air Jordans and care packages to local children, Fox 19 reported.

"To me, if I can use this to inspire them, just by giving them this start, great," Jordan declared. "If it helps them educationally, if it helps from a motivational standpoint, obviously it's Thanksgiving, to me that's a start because that's where you're going to have to rebuild is from a start."

Jordan autographed some of the donated Air Jordan sneakers.

"The coolest part is that Michael Jordan came, and my brother’s name is Jordan," exclaimed Brieyelle, one of the children present at the Boys and Girls Club.

It's been more than a decade since Jordan returned to Wilmington, the last public outing being in 2007 when he and his team at the time, the Charlotte Bobcats, held a training camp at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
