In a rare appearance, former first lady Michelle Obama graced the stage on Tuesday morning in San Jose, California at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, alongside Apple CEO Tim Cook, according to NBC Bay Area.

Closed to non-attendees, Cook announced the surprise visit and “fireside chat” with Obama at the end of his keynote address on Monday.

Obama was also joined by Apple’s VP of environment, policy and social initiatives, Lisa Jackson, to discuss her post-White House life as well as technology’s role in “empowering people from all walks of life to make the world a better place.”

Speaking of making the world a better place, Obama shared much-needed words, especially given the status of world affairs today in regards to terrorism. On fear Obama noted, “If we let [fear] consume us, then we don’t move.”

As per usual, Obama’s words left attendees with a sense of inspiration.

"I'm a woman in technology so she's inspiring in that sense," said one attendee, Leila Navon. "She keeps telling us to keep working and keep doing what we should do and keep striving to be awesome pillars in our economy and our communities."
