Singer-songwriter Michelle Williams stopped by The Talk this week where she opened up and admitted that she was struggling with depression throughout her teenage years and throughout her years as a member of R&B group, Destiny's Child.

“I want to normalize this mental health discussion," is what Michelle Williams told the audience and other co-hosts of The Talk.

Williams admits she did not know what she was feeling until she was well into her adult years. It even got to a point where suicide was a considerable option for the vocalist.

“I was to that place where it got so dark and heavy because sometimes you feel like ‘I’m the provider, I take care of people, I’m not supposed to be feeling this way—what do I do?’ I wanted out.”

Now an overcomer and awareness advocate, Williams is using her story as a testimony, to share so that we may “normalize this mental health discussion.” She has partnered with artists to create more awareness around mental wellness and being comfortable discussing the taboos of mental health. Michelle is just one of many artists who have spoken out about mental health. Other well-known fighters include Sinead O'Connor and rap favorite Kid Cudi.

Mental health should not be brushed under a rug and ignored. Thanks to individuals like Michelle Williams who use their platform to create unity and awareness where fear often rests.
