A California middle school assistant principal took his own life in an apparent suicide on the school’s campus on Monday morning.

According to a statement released by school officials, Moises Plascencia was found dead in a private staff area of the school. Michael Young, the principal of Kraemer Middle school, stated that none of the school faculty members nor students were present when the incident occurred.

“The incident took place in a private staff area. And fellow staff members and students were not present, nor was the occurrence witnessed by anyone,” Young said. “The Placentia Police Department (PPD) responded swiftly to our request for support.”

Principal Young confirmed that school operations were suspended yesterday and that classes have resumed today.

“As we begin to process this unthinkable grief, we are suspending normal school operations through the remainder of the day. School will resume tomorrow with our regular schedule,” Young said. “The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District’s (PYLUSD) team of highly qualified mental health professionals will be on campus to serve and support students, staff, and families.”
