The group Millions March NYC aims to #ShutDownCityHallNYC starting with an early morning demonstration that began on Monday. The multicultural, grassroots body of organizers hopes to gather over 1,000 people to occupy the space. The #ShutDownCityHallNYC protest is aimed at publicly holding the system accountable and incentivize Mayor Bill de Blasio to act.
And they’ve made their demands very clear.
They are also very vocal about why their protest is necessary for New York City. In an orientation guide the group says, “Rather than take steps to eliminate problems affecting Black, Brown, and workingclass communities, New York City’s elite — and the politicians that line their pockets— choose to enhance the power of the racist police , giving them free reign to prey on the city’s most marginalized residents.”
One thing about Millions March is clear, they’re prepared. The orientation guide also outlines emergency information for protesters as well as five key phrases when met with law enforcement.
-
“Am I free to go?”
“Am I being detained?”
“I Do Not Consent to This Search”
“I AM GOING TO REMAIN SILENT, AND I WANT TO SPEAK TO A LAWYER!”
“I AM NOT RESISTING!”
Over the weekend, organizers called for available resources ahead of the protest.
