In a critical must-win game 5, the Minnesota Lynx pulled the upset of the year by beating the Los Angeles Sparks 85-76, winning the 2017 WNBA title, ESPN reports. The win gives Minnesota its fourth championship title in seven seasons.

Redemption is the best way to describe this year's playoffs run by the Lynx. During last year's finals, Maya Moore and the Lynx came up short against Candace Parker and the Sparks during game five thanks to a last-minute, game-winning shot. This year, the Lynx had revenge on their mind.

In game five all five of the Lynx's starters earned the victory, each scoring in the double digits. Both Sylvia Fowles and Maya Moore had double-digit rebounds, and Lindsay Whalen had eight assists.

The best-of-five series wasn't a cakewalk for the Lynx. The ladies were the underdogs going into game 4 in Los Angeles; they were down 2-1 in the series.

Both teams earned first-round byes due to them clinching the number one seed in their conferences. During the semifinals, the Lynx swept the Washington Mystics, and the Sparks did the same to the Phonix Mercury.

With this championship win, the Lynx became the second franchise in WNBA history to win the title four times, tieing with the Houston Comets, a team that won the first four WNBA titles from 1997-2000.

Minnesota previously captured the WNBA title in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

With a back-back championship run in 2001 and 2002, as well as a win in 2016, the Sparks tie with the Detroit Shock and the Phoenix Mercury, all three teams having three NBA titles to their names.

To celebrate the win, the Minnesota Lynx will throw a parade October 5 in Dinkytown district of Minnesota. The parade kicks off at 6:30 p.m., and will travel along University Avenue to Williams Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

Congrats to the Minnesota Lynx!
