Moses Ingram has been tapped to replace Lupita Nyong’o in Apple TV+’s upcoming series Lady in the Lake, which she will star in with Natalie Portman.
The upcoming limited series is created and directed by Alma Har’el, who also serves as executive producer alongside Portman.
Ingram will play the role of Cleo Sherwood, the character Nyong'o was set to play before she had to depart the project. Y’Lan Noel, Mikey Madison and Brett Gelman also star.
An adaptation of Laura Lippman’s novel, the series takes “place in 60s Baltimore, where an unsolved murder pushes housewife and mother, Maddie Schwartz (Portman) to reinvent her life as an investigative journalist and sets her on a collision course with Cleo Sherwood (Ingram), a hard-working woman juggling motherhood, many jobs and a passionate commitment to advancing Baltimore’s Black progressive agenda.”

The series is produced by Crazyrose and Bad Wolf America. Har’el executive produces alongside producing partner Christopher Leggett through her production company, Zusa; and, Portman executive produces alongside producing partner Sophie Mas. Crazyrose’s Nathan Ross and the late Jean-Marc Vallée,, as well as Julie Gardner for Bad Wolf, also executive produces. Amy J. Kaufman and Layne Eskridge for POV Entertainment are executive producers as well.
It is written by Har’el, with, Zach Shields, Vanessa Baden-Kelley, Briana Belser, Nambi Kelly, Byron Bowers, and Boaz Yakin. The latter is also an exec producer, as is author Laura Lippman.
Ingram, who rose to prominence in The Queens Gambit, and most recently, Obi-Kan Kenobi, also appeared in A24 and Apple’s The Tragedy of Macbeth.
This is Portman’s first big TV project and Har’el’s first big small screen foray.
