A few weeks ago, I took part in my first-ever healing circle. And I, possibly like you, had no idea what it was going to entail after only finding out about it on Instagram. SoulPick, a beautiful curation of soulfulness, female empowerment and community, is an account run by Brooklyn-based Nilly. She organized a healing circle in her city and invited women from around the country to do the same in their communities. So we did.
From my research, a healing circle is “a group of like-minded people who pray together to give or receive healing or energy work.” So naturally, I expected chanting, healing crystals, a night of yoga meditation or all of the above. To my surprise, it was a lot simpler than that.
That night we ended up sharing stories and laughing for hours. We talked about food, spirituality, heartache, life… nothing under the sun was off limits. It was a beautiful space that allowed every participant to be heard, be authentic and, more importantly, be empowered. We need more spaces like this. Not just socially, but privately as well. We don’t need an audience to honor each other, to recognize ourselves in the struggles of our sisters.
It taught me more about sisterhood than I could have ever imagined. We so desperately need each other. When the world keeps beating us up, it’s essential that we continue to support each other, hear each other, and fight for one another.
