A year ago, 7.2 million of you tuned in to check out NBC’s attempt to revive the variety show, via "The Maya Rudolph Show," and, by all accounts, it was a hit for the network, also winning its 10 pm slot, among the top broadcast TV networks in total viewers and other key measures, according to Nielsen.

And the question afterward was whether it served as a test-run, which, if a success, NBC would upgrade to a daily or weekly series.

While not a definite, Variety is reporting that NBC wants to bring Rudolph back, and that talks are definitely underway for a return of some live program for next season, hosted by Rudolph – whether a continuation of last year’s variety show, or maybe even a talk-show, or some other kind of live special.

We may find out in a matter of days, since NBC is set to unveil its 2015-16 season plans next week Monday, via its annual upfront presentation to advertisers at Radio City Music Hall.

Last year’s "Maya Rudolph Show" featured guest stars Craig Robinson, Andy Samberg, Kristen Bell, Fred Armisen, Chris Parnell, Sean Hayes, and others.

Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Janelle Monae served as the musical guest. R&b singer-producer Raphael Saadiq was bandleader.

Rudolph is certainly busy, with roles in Diego Luna‘s road movie "Mr. Pig," teaming up with fellow "Saturday Night Live" alums Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, in the comedy feature "The Nest," and on the small screen in IFC’s six-part miniseries, "The Spoils Before Dying," as well as HBO’s half-hour comedy from Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin.
