Nicki Minaj continues to promote the Trump administration and its agenda. This time, she is putting her celebrity status, and possibly some of her money, behind Trump’s new savings account policy. This is yet another public endorsement by Minaj of Trump and his MAGA movement.
Trump, Minaj praise each other in first joint appearance
Minaj made her first public appearance with President Trump on Wednesday, as she held his hand when they appeared onstage together to promote the president’s new children’s savings accounts. As Trump was speaking at the event launching his new savings scheme, he called Minaj to the stage, calling her “such a great supporter, and a great supporter of Trump accounts.” After joking that he was going to let his nails grow to match Minaj’s, the president further praised Minaj for her support. “She’s so good. She’s been, she’s been MAGA, what can I say? She’s been with us all the way.”
For her part, Minaj was equally effusive in her praise for Trump. “I will say that I am probably the president’s number one fan, and that’s not going to change,” Minaj said in her most direct endorsement yet of the president. She also addressed the backlash she has been getting for her right-wing turn, saying, “The hate or what people have to say, it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more.” After declaring that “we’re not going to let them get away with bullying him and, you know, the smear campaigns,” Minaj said that Trump “has a lot of force behind him, and God is protecting him. Amen,” before awkwardly leaving the stage.
Minaj supports Trump accounts as MAGA support continues
Minaj’s appearance with Trump came as the president launched his new savings plan, which has been nicknamed “Trump accounts.” Under the plan, certain children born between 2025 and 2028 in low-income zip codes will receive a federally-created account, initially funded at $1000, that will theoretically gain value and be accessible when the child turns 18. Trump has gotten support and pledges of contributions from a number of wealthy individuals and institutions. Organizations such as Bank of America and Charles Schwab have pledged to donate to accounts of employees’ children, and billionaire couple Michael and Susan Dell have pledged over $6 billion to fund the accounts. Minaj previously indicated that she would donate between $150,000 and $300,000 to fans for the accounts.
Minaj’s participating with the Trump accounts plan, and her endorsement of the president at Wednesday’s launch event, are the latest in a growing list of pro-MAGA activities she has carried out over the last few months. Minaj began her pro-Trump turn by publicly endorsing his disputed narrative about persecution of Christians in Nigeria, which led to Minaj speaking at a United Nations event; Trump later bombed Islamist groups in the West African nation. Minaj also appeared with conservative influencer Erika Kirk and has publicly feuded with Trump critics like California Governor Gavin Newsom.
If these past activities were not indication enough, Minaj has now left no doubt about her political affiliation. With Trump and Minaj appearing together and endorsing one another, and the rapper dismissing criticism of her pro-MAGA stances, it appears that her right-wing swing will continue.
