Nipsey Hussle, the rap legend and community activist who was shot and killed outside The Marathon Clothing store on March 31, was nominated for three Grammys, The Wrap reports.
Hussle was recognized in the Best Rap/Sung Performance category for “Higher,” a collaboration between him, John Legend and DJ Khaled. The song “Racks in the Middle” featuring Roddy Ricch and Hit-Boy was nominated for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.
Hussle’s nominated songs are up against DaBaby, Offset, Cardi B, J. Cole and Lil Nas X, The Wrap notes. Overall, Lizzo leads the pack in nominations with eight, Blavity reports.
The awards will be presented at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on January 26 with Alicia Keys as the host, CNN reports.
Hussle, who was 33 years old when he died, appeared in the video for “Higher” which was released in May, NPR reports.
The video, directed by Eif Rivera, “is a love letter to Nipsey’s hometown of Crenshaw,” NPR notes.
Khaled, hearing of the nominations, posted the music video to “Higher,” on his Instagram. He also shared a collection of old text messages between him and Hussle about how excited he was for the song during the recording process.
Roc Nation and Epic Records also tweeted praise for the song being nominated.

Hussle was nominated for a Grammy for the rap album “Victory Lap.” Last year, Cardi B’s debut studio album won the award, Blavity reports.
The "Higher" rapper was also nominated for five awards at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards. He won MVP of the Year at that show in October, CNN reports.
He also won a Humanitarian Award at the BET Awards in June, Blavity reports.
"Higher" was also nominated at the MTV Video Music Awards, losing to Cardi B's video for "Money."
