In a scene that is growing painfully familiar to many in the Country, no charges will be brought against a police officer for killing an unarmed person of color. Officer Matt Kenny of the Madison Police Department fatally shot Tony Robinson in Madison on March 6th, bringing days of peaceful protests to the city. It was reported that Kenny was called to an apartment building over calls of Robinson jumping in front of cars and assaulting people. Kenny claimed that when he forced his way into the apartment, he was attacked by Robinson, and was left no choice but to pull out his gun and issue a fatal shot. Earlier this afternoon, Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne stated that Robinson’s death was the result of a lawful use of deadly police force, and then went on to discuss how concerned he was about the city of Madison (a city where black males are more likely to be killed by police than in a car accident) breaking out into similar protests seen in Ferguson, Baltimore, and beyond. He then took the opportunity to, of course, close with a quote by Martin Luther King Jr.

Our thoughts are with the Robinson family, and the city of Madison tonight.
