NYPD officers stopped and frisked 27 year old Glenn Grays, an on-duty postal worker, after he chastised them for almost hitting him with their unmarked vehicle.
After the vehicle nearly hit his mail truck, Glenn made a comment to the men in the car from his window, with no clear intent to commit a crime or make any acts of violence toward anyone. After the brief interaction, he exited his truck to deliver a package when he was intercepted by two NYPD officers.
Even during the unpleasant and aggressive actions that proceeded Mr. Gray’s arrest, he did not resist or complain, cooperating fully with the officers. The officers then arrested him with no clear indication that a crime of any kind was committed. Onlookers recorded the interaction and voiced their concerns during the altercation.
In a press conference that followed this wrongful arrest, Borough President Eric Adams addressed a crowd of concerned citizens and media professionals saying, “I believe there were federal violations. Number one, leaving that truck unsecured. Number, two, interrupting the delivery of mail. There are clear NYPD procedures when you are arresting a federal employee…We don’t know if even those basic procedures were followed.”
