Barack Obama shared some holiday cheer yesterday at a local Chicago food bank.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            While visiting the city for a two-day leadership conference, the Obama Foundation Summit, the nation's 44th president visited the Greater Chicago Food Depository to lend a helping hand to volunteers as they prepped food for Thanksgiving. The food bank is one of the main pantries in Cook County, providing over 150,000 meals per day for the homeless and locals suffering from hunger.

The organization thanked Obama for his work and stressed the importance of addressing hunger. It also shared footage of the experience on Twitter where the 57-year-old was seen shaking hands, encouraging the group's workers and bagging potatoes.

“You guys are doing such a great job helping out,” Obama said to two young volunteers. “I’m really proud of you.”

Obama took to Twitter to thank the team for letting him “crash” during the food preparation.

Retirement isn't slowing down the former POTUS anytime soon. Obama was commemorated in late summer by the state of Illinois with his official day. Previous FLOTUS Michelle Obama has also been keeping busy post-White House residency, encouraging voter participation in this year’s previous midterm election and releasing her new memoir Becoming.

The couple continues to advocate for the eradication of world hunger, a global mission that dates back to their work on the 2010 Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.
