nullBefore this morning’s announcement, I wondered whether Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network would receive any Primetime Emmy nominations this year. As I said in that post, the network only very recently entered into the original scripted dramatic and comedy series space, and I didn’t believe anything in the fledgling network’s lineup in those categories, would be nominated at this point, adding that if OWN receives any nominations at all, they’ll be in the Reality TV, or any of the other *special* categories.

And that’s exactly what happened!

OWN has received its first ever Primetime Emmy nomination for its popular original series, Oprah’s Master Class.

Now in its third season, Oprah’s Master Class was honored with its first nomination in the Outstanding Informational Series or Special category.

The network sent out a formal press release announcing this historic news. It’ll be a trivia question some years down the road: What was the first OWN series to receive a Primetime Emmy nomination?

Its competition in that category this year include: Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Brain Games, Inside The Actors Studio, and Stand Up To Cancer.

“Oprah’s Master Class” tells the stories you’ve never heard from the people you thought you knew best. Hand-picked by Oprah Winfrey for their unique impact on the world, true modern masters step forward to share the greatest lessons they’ve learned along the way. In an intimate setting, they share their successes, their failures, their triumphs, disappointments and heartbreaks. “Oprah’s Master Class” offers an unprecedented first-person insight into the brilliant minds of the famous people we love, respect, and admire. The nominated season features masters such as Tom Brokaw, Cindy Crawford, Alicia Keys and Stevie Nicks.

“We couldn’t be more proud of this nomination that recognizes Oprah’s creative vision for our network, the dedication of everyone at OWN, Harpo Studios and our wonderful partners at Radical Media,” said Sheri Salata, president, OWN. “We are thrilled to receive such an honor.”
