The FDA has recalled dozens of peanut butter items produced by Ventura Foods LLC. According to the FDA, Ventura Foods initiated the recall in April after finding “pieces of blue plastic in a filter.”
The recall is categorized as Class II on Thursday, People reported. According to the FDA, this classification means that the products “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
The FDA recalled at least 20,000 single-serve peanut butter items
In addition, several peanut butter-and-jelly combo products have been recalled, according to People. The recalled products include Flavor Fresh Peanut Butter, distributed by Dyma Brands, Inc. and House Recipe Creamy Peanut Butter, distributed by Sysco Corporation, as reported by Delish. Some of the other brands are: Katy’s Kitchen Smooth Peanut Butter, marketed by Independent Marketing Alliance; Creamy Peanut Butter Poco Pac, distributed by US Foods; and Peanut Butter Creamy, distributed by Gordon Food Service.
The affected products were shipped to 40 states, which include Alabama, Arizona, California, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Connecticut, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan and Massachusetts.
What is Ventura Foods saying about the peanut butter recall?
In a statement to People, Ventura Food LLC affirmed its focus on protecting consumers’ health, saying, “Protecting consumers remains our top priority, and we will continue to act swiftly and transparently as the FDA review progresses.”
Ventura Foods LLC also told People that it was distributor DYMA Brands that initiated the recall.
“Ten months ago, DYMA Brands initiated a voluntary recall on various single-use peanut butter products due to the potential presence of a foreign material (plastic),” the spokesperson said.
They added, “At the time the recall was initiated … we acted with urgency to remove all potentially impacted product from the marketplace. This includes urging our customers, their distributors and retailers to immediately review their inventory, segregate and stop the further sale and distribution of any products subject to the recall.”
