The new teaser and images have been released for Disney+’s upcoming series adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The series premieres on the streamer Dec. 20 with new episodes airing weekly.

Based on the book series by Rich Riordan, Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows the titular character as he realizes he has powers from Greek mythology. According to the official description:

Percy Jackson and the Olympians tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god, Zeus, accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.

The series made waves in 2022 when Riordan responded to racism over Leah Sava Jeffries’ casting. Jeffries was cast as Annabeth Chase, who was played in the film versions of the books by Alexandra Daddario. Riordan wrote that while Jeffries’ casting was overwhelming positive, he wrote that no one should send hate towards the actor, stating, “If you have a problem with this casting…take it up with me. You have no one else to blame. Whatever you take from this post, we should be able to agree that bullying and harassing a child online is inexcusably wrong.”

Aryan Simhadri was also cast as another of Jackson’s friends, Grover. The character was originally played by Brandon T. Jackson in the films. Walker Scobell stars as Percy, who was played by Logan Lerman in the films.

Also joining the main trio are Lin-Manuel Miranda, Megan Mullally, Toby Stephens, Virginia Kull, Jason Mantzoukas, Jay Duplass, Glynn Turman, Adam Copeland, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Olivea Morton, Suzanne Cryer, Timm Sharp and Timothy Omundson. The series also stars Lance Reddick, who died in 2023, in one of his last screen roles.
