Viral video captured the violent arrest of a Black train passenger in Madrid, Spain.

According to Spanish news outlet The Olive Press, the incident took place last Thursday during an 11:30 a.m. commute from Cercanias de Madrid to Cercedilla. Renfe police officers singled out the man and asked him for his ticket.

The man, dressed in a black leather jacket, refused to show his ticket because of the evident racial discrimination. An older woman intervened as the police began to harass the man further. Despite the police officers' threat of violence, he insisted officers did not have the authority to see his ticket—only the conductor had the authority to ask for tickets.

“But they are not authorized to ask me for the ticket, ma’am,” the young man stated.

One of the officers retorted and threatened to rough him up as he removed him from the train.

“I’m authorized," he said bluntly. “I’m an authority in Renfe, despite being security, so now go with me outside, by hook or by crook, as you wish.”

Some of the passengers came to the man's aid and demanded to have the conductor intervene. One of the passengers happened to be an off-duty officer who vowed to file a report of the harassment he witnessed.

“You should not have grabbed me like this, do not overdo your work and call the conductor,” the man told the security guard. “You’re overdoing yourself, you’re stopping a train with 300 people for your f**king stubbornness.”

As the struggled continued, the man eventually showed his ticket.

“I’m not going to get off; here’s my ticket, why do I have to get off? If I have not done anything?”

The officers claimed the ticket may have been fake. “Because we can not prove it,” the officers answered.

Atlanta Black Star reports the Renfe police has opened an investigation into the matter and have denied allegations of racism.
