FORWARD HOME: The Power of the Caribbean Diaspora, has been making waves across the world and now it is set to do the same in the United Kingdom, when it is screened at the University of Oxford on November 1, 2012. This documentary film shall also publicly premiere in London on November 5 at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in South London under the auspices of His Excellency Garvin Nicholas, High Commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, London UK.

The UK public premiere, which is being directed by the event co-ordination arm of local production house, Imagine Media International Ltd. comes after successful premieres in Toronto, Barbados, Suriname, USA, Guadeloupe, Columbia, Tanzania, El Salvador, Jamaica and Brussels, and fresh off the heels of an explosive debut at this year’s 7th annual Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival.

FORWARD HOME: The Power of the Caribbean Diaspora is a documentary film that showcases the economic power of Caribbean people, living in global cities. It explores the significance of their contribution to their homeland back in the Caribbean, whether through remittances, trade, community development, travel and other monetary or in kind contributions. The documentary was shot by the award-winning filmmaking team of Producer-Director, Lisa Wickham, CEO of Imagine Media International Ltd., and Director of Photography, Sheldon Felix. Together, the duo transformed two years of research by renowned economist and creative industries specialist, Dr. Keith Nurse into the compelling 50-minute documentary film.

The documentary was filmed in 9 countries across Europe, North America and the Caribbean and is a strong tool for both academic discourse and governmental policy-making. “It provides excellent insight into the travel, trade, tourism, telecommunications and banking industries” says Wickham.

According to Dr. Keith Nurse, who was also the Executive Producer of the film, "The documentary helps to map the contribution of the Diasporic economy and specifically Diasporic tourism to Caribbean economies”. Relating this to us as Caribbean people living in London, by maintaining the uniqueness of our Caribbeanism here, we have managed to ensure that our homeland also reaps the benefits of us being here. This is a definite must-see for all industry stake-holders, policy makers, academia and students.
